Removal of the N-substituents of thiazoline-azetidinones derived from penicillin G has been achieved successfully by either elecrtolytic acetoxylation of the a,b-unsaturated esters 2 or electrolytic decarboxylation of the b,g-unsaturated carboxylic acid 3 followed by alkaline hydrolysis.
