Indirect electroreductive transformations of a,b-epoxy carbonyl compounds 1 mediated by diphenyl diselenide ((PhSe)2) as a recyclable reagent to their b-hydroxy derivatives 2 in 80-90% yields were achieved in an undivided cell by use of a sacrificial anode. The procedure can be applicable to the selenation of the haloalkane 4, the epoxide 6, and thea,b-enone 8 with an equimolar amount of (PhSe)2.
