Palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of allyl diethyl phosphate in the presence of imines under CO pressure (30 Kgcm-2) gave highly stereoselectively either cis- or trans-3-vinyl-b-lactam compounds, depending on the nature of the imines employed in high yields.
