A soluble Ru(VII)/Ru(IV) redox system in MeCN/H₂O(9/1 v/v)-Bu₄NOH-(Pt/Pt) was found to be a mild oxidizing method for the electrochemical conversion of primary and secondary alcohols into their conrresponding aldehydes and ketones under basic conditions.
